IV - Elevation fine adjust

arrow left arrow up arrow right

On the top end of (L) is the scope mount. This mount allows for fine adjustment of the elevation. The scope itself is mounted on a piece of c-profile aluminum, filed down to fit to the feet of the scope. The lower end of the aluminum piece is held down by two screws with soft washers, and right underneath is a short piece of wire (10-ga copper, with insulation, with the ends poked into the wood) that allows this end to tip up and down just a bit. drawing of pivot photo of pivot (ssp6_small.jpg)

On the other end of (N), the big knob pushes the aluminum (N)up from the wood (L), and the aluminum is held down by the spring, which goes from the top of the aluminum C-profile, through a hole in the wood to the bottom, where it is held by a nail. To prevent sideways slippage, I drilled a hole in the aluminum, which rides over a pin sticking out of the wood. The total vertical movement is only about 1/4", but this is plenty. (ssp9_small.jpg)

Finally I have a cardboard shield, which also serves to cover up all those ugly holes in the middle of (L). I made 2 small holes that cast a spot of light onto the cardholder, that helps you find the sun. Thi piece is held in place with a rubber band. You can see it in the photo on the starting page. cardboard shield
