III - Scope support
Between two house-shaped pieces (J) rides a
semicircular piece (K). These made of particle board. The house-shaped
pieces are
mounted in the center of the main disk (I). I clamp the 3 pieces (JKJ)
together, and then glue and screw pieces (J) to the circle. This ensures
there is a good friction fit.
The semicircular piece will
support the 3/4"x3.5" pine board, on which on one end the scope, and
on the other end the card holder are mounted. Two 2" strap hinges connect
the
bottom of the board to the top of the house.

The board can tip up and down
by
about 23° It will be down in the winter and up in the summer.
With the knob
you can lock the thing into place. A slot is cut into the semicircle to
let the threaded rod pass to the other house-shaped piece.

Here is the scope support board (L). Note that in order to keep some
clearance,
I reversed the hinges. Also, you need to drill some holes in the board so
you can reach the screws for the hinges below.
|
On the lower end of the board (L) is the index card holder (M). It is
simply a small
piece of wood glued and screwed to the end of the board. Then out of strips
of thin cardboard, two retainers are made such that you can slip a standard
index card in place. These are carefully glued into place such that an index
card can be put in easily, yet snug enough so that there is no sideways
motion possible: you always want those cards in the same place.
